FAQs

What is Vetrofen® and how is it given? It is a fine powder, which is administered orally and is best mixed with feed. You can also mix with water and syringe if required.

How soon will my horse feel an effect from Vetrofen® with knocks and bumps using the 24-hour or 7-day care packs? It varies depending on your horse's state, the rate at which it metabolises the ingredients, and if the horse has recently been given any other products prior to taking Vetrofen®. However, we find that Vetrofen® provides a noticeable effect within 3 hours, but is most effective after 6–12 hours. You may want to increase the loading strength of Vetrofen® when using the 7-day course to help your horse feel an effect sooner. To do this, use Vetrofen® Instant Impact 24 hour Booster pack during the first 24 hours.

How soon will my horse feel an effect from Vetrofen® with longer term requirements (using the 21, 90 or 180-sachet care packs)? In the field, professionals and veterinarians have found that Vetrofen® brings about a response in horses within 4–5 days, whilst others respond in 5–10 days or longer. For fast results, or for those horses with particularly poor mobility, use a loading serve of Vetrofen® to start with. For a horse of average weight (450 kilos), ideally use two sachets in the morning and two sachets in the evening until the desired effect is reached (normally 3–5 days, but it can take up to 10 days in some cases). You should then reduce the serve to Maintenance PLUS until you feel that the effect is being sustained regularly, and then to Maintenance level. (Maintenance: One sachet daily; Maintenance PLUS: One sachet in the morning and one sachet in the evening).

What about side effects? There are NO SIDE EFFECTS with Vetrofen®! Should Vetrofen® be taken with NSAIDs such as Bute or other Phenylbutazone-type products? No. This could lead to side effects and reduce the effectiveness of Vetrofen®.

What if my horse is already on NSAIDs and I want to start feeding Vetrofen&®? Do not stop giving your horse NSAIDs abruptly. Reduce the dose of the NSAID by one third every third day over the course of nine days and then start feeding Vetrofen® at the recommended dose. In both clinical studies and in-market use, the patent-pending ingredients used in Vetrofen® have consistently demonstrated a significant benefit to patients with joint discomfort. Vetrofen® is unique because it works with the body to manage knocks and bumps and joint stiffness by supporting the body’s natural metabolic balance. This approach is in sharp contrast to the effect of masking symptoms, which is seen with many chemical-based alternatives.
