Suitable for use in Organic Farming Systems: 'Blowfly Repel' is made using only pure and natural concentrated plant derivatives. All of our products fall into the exempt category of products which use only plant oils as active ingredients, as listed in Annexe IIB (Pesticides) of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91 (as amended), and so this product is suitable for use in organic farming systems. Fully HSE Approved - Licence No. 8722: Full HSE Approval - Licence No 8722: In accordance with the Biocidal Products Directive, regulations require any product which holds itself out as any form of repellent to secure an approval and licence number from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). This approval requires the active ingredient (Ai) to be listed on the label together with the amount of Ai being used. In April, 2006 Barrier Animal Healthcare secured the necessary approval and the licence number 8722 for this product. Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use. Maggots: 'Blowfly Repel' can be applied directly to the affected area. It will quickly and effectively rid the sheep of maggots by its repelling action and help to protect against further strike. Apply directly to raw and exposed areas to soothe, protect, and aid natural healing. Signs of strike: Once an animal has been struck, the animal will become very restless, usually stamping their hind legs and twitching their tails. They will loose condition, hide away to be literally eaten alive. Prompt action is required. Life-cycle: The Greenbottle (Lucillia sericata) prefers to lay its eggs on live animals although unlike lice can reproduce away from the sheep. They are especially attracted to 'suitable sites' by dirty wool, scouring, foot rot and wounds but can also lay their eggs on clean sheep. Total development from egg to fully mature larvae can take as little as three days and even less in a wound. Once an animal has been struck, the animal becomes very restless, will loose condition, hide away to be literally eaten alive. Blowfly Strike: Swift action is needed by farmers to prevent Blowfly strike. Blowfly strike is a very distressing complaint for an animal and can cause the death of affected animals. Blowfly normally strike sheep during the summer months and lambs and unshorn sheep tend to be at greater risk. Although Blowfly strike can occur virtually anywhere in the country, they tend not to affect areas of high altitute, prefering the more sheltered areas, such as woodland, riverside especially on sunny, showery and humid days between April and October. Foot Rot: The pungent and rotten smell of foot rot is an attraction to Blowfly. Apply plenty of 'Fungicidal Foot Spray' to the whole foot where animals have been struck under the horn. See 'Fungicidal Foot Spray.' No - O.Ps: 'Blowfly Repel' is very effective, yet gentle on the skin and pleasant to use. It does not contain Organo phoshates, Synthetic or Natural Pyrethrums or Organic Acids. Weather Conditions: In good, dry weather and on clean sheep 'Blowfly repel' will remain effective for up to four weeks. However, in very wet weather, 'Blowfly Repel' will have to be re-applied. Although there is some protection in damp weather, it will not stand up to heavy or constant rain. Where dirty wool, scouring, foot rot or injury exist the rate of application must be increased. Use as back-up to sheep bath: 'Blowfly repel' is an excellent back-up for 'Barrier D Sheep Bath Formula' and can be applied directly to animals that have been struck. Precautions: Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
