Benevit Advance supplies balanced proportions of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids which are absolutely vital for good health and condition. Micronutrient requirements of the horse Vitamins and minerals are sometimes referred to as micronutrients due to the small amounts that are required in the diet. However this does not reflect their importance. Vitamins and minerals are vital for normal function of the body and they play important roles in the body's metabolic processes, for example in the production of energy and the construction of healthy tissue. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies in the diet will lead to disturbed body function and eventually disease. However, it is not always possible to determine from looking at your horse or pony whether or not they are receiving adequate micronutrients. If symptoms are evident, disease is imminent. Essential fatty acid deficiencies are as debilitating as micronutrient deficiencies and may cause skin problems and eventually, disturbed body function. The horse requires both linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid and alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid, therefore where dietary levels are unknown, supplementing will help to keep the horse feeling and looking good.
