Harry the Hanoverian
When Harry’s owner first laid eyes on him, he was underweight and showed clear signs of discomfort in the hindquarters. Unwilling to leave him as she found him, Mrs. Martin bought Harry and quickly had his back checked. It turned out that Harry had a locked-up pelvis and pain in his neck. He was also diagnosed with Stringhalt, causing him to lift his hind legs very high when on hard ground. These findings led to an X-ray, which showed that Harry was suffering from kissing spines. Harry underwent steroid injections and physiotherapy as treatment for his locked pelvis. This in turn released his kissing spines, and was followed up by further therapy, including physiotherapy and acupuncture.
Mrs. Martin first started to feed Harry Vetrofen following his veterinary treatment. Vetrofen is a bute substitute with no side effects, and helps to maintain soundness and mobility, dealing with the trauma of knocks and bumps whilst soothing joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Whilst Harry still sometimes (and probably always will) over-lifts his hind legs, he has made a full recovery. Feeding Harry Vetrofen alongside his treatment and daily stretching exercises has resulted in what his physiotherapist described as the fastest recovery she’s ever seen.
Mrs. Martin has since elected to work Harry bare foot, feeding Vetrofen to support him through the stages of sensitivity. Now Harry is a happy chappy, only wearing hoof boots during roadwork, and enjoying a life of hacking and jumping with his proud and dedicated owner.
With kind thanks to owner Luisa Martin for telling us Harry's story.

Edward the Minature Shetland
Edward’s problems started in July 2005, when an injury to his right hind leg resulted in severe lameness. X-rays confirmed a fracture of the femur in the stifle area. The vet concluded that surgery was not a practical option, but felt that in view of Edward’s size, the possibility of the bone fusing and becoming stable could allow for a good quality of life.
Edward was confined to box rest for six months, resulting in muscle wastage of the injured leg. This, combined with the fracture itself, left his leg three quarters of an inch shorter. Ever resourceful, Edward’s owner searched far and wide for someone who could make a special boot for the afflicted leg, eventually settling on a saddler in Surrey.
Over the next two years, Edward showed promising progress in both comfort and mobility of his hind leg. However, disaster struck again in September 2007, when Edward developed left forelimb lameness associated with damage to the inferior check ligament. The cause was unknown, but may have been a result of abnormal loading due to the initial injury to Edward’s right hind leg.
The problem in Edward’s left forelimb persisted, with increasing contracture in the leg causing the foot to knuckle forward. This time, surgery was favoured. In December 2007, Edward underwent an operation to cut the inferior check ligament. A special shoe was also fitted to extend and protect the toe area.
Whilst some improvement could be seen following surgery, the tendency for the foot to buckle forward remained. Consequently, Edward underwent a second operation to cut the superior check ligament in April 2008. Over the next three months, some improvement, albeit modest, could be seen in the posture of Edward’s left foreleg. The owner elected to continue with foot support over more radical surgery (e.g. cutting flexor tendons), developing a homemade boot to address the problem.
Edward was coping well until May 2010, when he developed yet another contracture problem, this time in the right foreleg. By this point, he had problems in three out of four legs!
Edward was first given Vetrofen in June 2010, and then Vetroflex in January 2011 in a bid to maximize comfort. An alternative to bute, Vetrofen helps to maintain soundness and mobility, dealing with the trauma of knocks and bumps whilst soothing joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Designed for those in need of extra support, Vetroflex is scientifically formulated to work with Vetrofen or on its own for strong, flexible and healthy joints and bones. Edward’s feed has been supplemented with both ever since.
Edward has been unlucky in health but lucky in ownership. Through her constant care, foot support and use of Vetrofen, Edward’s owner has allowed him to remain his bright and mischievous self, giving him a good quality of life and the best chance of a happy future.

Jake's Story
Just before Christmas 2009, Jake was found to have a cracked tooth. He was transported to the Weiper's Centre where he was examined and found to have split the tooth into fragments. This must have been very painful for him, but he was very brave and never gave any indication of pain and always managed to gobble up his feed and hay.
We were advised that the tooth needed extracting the hard way, through a bone flap to his sinus and the tooth and fragments could be knocked into his mouth. All went well (thankfully) and he was discharged home on antibiotics a week later.
Jake is the grey pictured lying in the field with his best friend Mutley.
Poor Jake, those antibiotics badly upset his stomach and he stopped eating and had diarrhoea. I did research on the internet and found that you sold Equine Gold and this is how I found your website! It is a blessing because Jake had two recurrent sinus infections which were almost to be expected and 3 lots of antibiotics in total (1 after surgery and then 2 for each infection). He lost a lot of weight as well. Thank goodness I found your website because the Equine Gold worked wonders and Jake very much appreciated the treats which were enclosed with his order of 'happy tummy bugs'.
Everytime Jake is wormed or given antibiotics/medicine or he is under the weather, he has a little extra Equine Gold and I just want to say, thank you very much, Supplement Solutions!! We found a solution with your supplements. Helen
