Veterinary Medicines Directorate

Like human pharmaceuticals, animal medicines are strictly regulated. All animal medicines are classified into one of four categories:

POM-V = Prescription Only Medicine - Veterinarian.  This can only be prescribed by a veterinarian, but supplied by either a veterinarian or pharmacist.

POM-VPS = Prescription Only Medicine - Veterinarian, Pharmacist or Suitably Qualified Person (SQP). These products can only be prescribed and supplied by one of the Registered Qualified Persons listed.

NFA-VPS = Non Food Animal - Veterinarian, Pharmacist or Suitably Qualified Person (SQP). These products can be supplied by one of the Registered Qualified Persons listed.

AVM-GSL = Authorised Veterinary Medicine - General Sales List - These can be supplied by any retailer.

Qualification to sell veterinary products

The retailer and premises where animal medicines are stored and supplied must be licensed annually with the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directive) and these premises can only be registered if they have a qualified person working there, such as an SQP, Vet or Pharmacist.  In addition, SQPs are only qualified to prescribe and supply products for those animals which they are qualified for. Their category is shown as a initial in front of "SQP" such as E-SQP. Further details about SQPs and their qualifications can be found on the AMTRA website.

Supplement Solutions Ltd, The Weind, Great Eccleston, Preston, PR3 0ZU (2029690) is registered with the VMD. Verification of this can be found on the VMD's Register of Approved SQP Retailers.  The SQP responsible for all medicines is Hannah Wild (E-SQP). She is qualified to prescribe and supply POM-VPS for Equines, and NFA-VPS for companion animals, plus AVM-GSL and SAES. Confirmation of this can be found on the List of AMTRA Registered Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs).  If you would like to contact Hannah please email, or call 01995 671787. All SQPs, by law, have to attend regular training events, also known as CPD (Continuing Professional Development). This ensures that they keep up to date with all the latest developments and information.

All animal medicines sold on this website are defined by the words "POM-VPS" or "NFA-VPS". These appear in the title of the product and also in the Legal Category. This is under the "Information" tab on each product. For all POM-VPS and NFA-VPS products there is a series of questions which must be completed before the website will allow you to place your order. On receipt of your order, our SQP will thoroughly check your answers to ensure the product is suitable for that species, the number of animals you are treating and your particular situation, before the order can be dispatched.  In some cases our SQP may need to contact you, so please include a contact number and email address on your order.

Buying veterinary medicine in the EU

We are happy to provide veterinary medicines to EU member states, providing that you complete the form at the time of ordering that states that there is no specific legislation against such imports in your part of the EU. We will also make our own checks to ensure that the product is authorised in your state. However, if the product is not approved, then the order cannot be fulfilled. As these products are animal medicines, there may be some regulations during transportation that mean that the products get stopped in transit. If this happens, full responsibility will be with you, the customer.

We do everything we can to ensure that products reach you, but are unaware of each EU state's restrictions and regulations fully, so it is essential that you make sure the product is permitted in your country. Please note that all our products are as pictured, with packets and usage instructions printed in English. Please ensure you understand all wording before administering the product to your animal.

All Veterinary Medicines can be found on the VMD product Information Database.
