Like everyone else, we're grateful that the sunshine is brightening these difficult times.

What we're not so grateful for is the onslaught of challenges that spring brings for horse & pet owners! From allergies, to lush green grass, to hormones & flies.

Horse in spring meadow at dusk

This week we're focusing on those pesky flies, as we take a look at some of the best fly repellents for horses…

Tackle flies from the inside out

Global Herbs FlyFree is a natural feed supplement containing plants which are digested and pass through to your horse’s skin. Here, they make life much more comfortable for your horse.

As an added bonus, you’ll also find that feeding Flyfree makes your horse ‘gleam’. This supplement helps with general skin condition, clear breathing and soothes membranes around the nose and eyes. It's a win-win!

Available in 500g, 1kg & 5kg.

Spray away

NAF Off Citronella Spray is a water-based, ready to use spray perfect for the summer months. Its pleasant, fresh scent fends off nasty flying bugs.

Check out the other sprays in the NAF Off range for a stronger hit – NAF Off Extra Effect and NAF Off Deet Power Performance. Plus, buy any two of the 750ml sprays and you’ll get £5 off! (Offer valid until 31st October, 2020.)

Repel with a gel

If you can’t get anywhere near your horse with a spray (we’ve all been there!), Equine America's Fly Repel Gel is a great alternative. Simply apply this natural gel repellent with a cloth or sponge for up to eight hours of coverage.

A comfortable cover-up

We have a whole range of fly masks available tailored to suit your horse. Equilibrium Products’s field relief range is great as they always design products with horses’ comfort in mind. We love the detachable nose piece on the Field Relief Max Fly Mask. Not to mention the fact that it offers sun protection too!

A smelly solution?

If you want to take a back to basics approach, we have a number of customers who swear by feeding garlic! A supplement, such as Omega Equine’s Garlic Granules, can be fed for all-round health benefits, with the resulting odour produced through sweat acting as a natural repellent. Lovely!

A multi-pronged attack

As well as solutions for your horse, you might want to consider their environment. NAF’s Stick ‘Em Up fly ribbons are ideal for your tack room and stable, and why not try its NAF Off Citronella Wrist Band to help you fend off the flies too?
