Panacur Equine Guard 10% w/v Oral Suspension [active ingredient: Fenbendazole] (POM-VPS)

Panacur Equine Guard is a fenbendazole-based anthelmintic for the treatment and control of encysted inhibited and encysted mucosal small redworm in horses and donkeys. For the effective treatment of these worms, it is recommended that Equine Gaurd be administered late in the autumn (October/November) and early in spring (February). This five day treatment is also effective against large redworm, Ascarids, Oxyuris and Strongyloides species. One 225ml bottle contains sufficient liquid to treat a 600kg horse for the recommended five days.

What are encysted inhibited and encysted mucosal small redworms? Encysted small redworms are larvae and immature adult redworm that burrow into the wall of the horse's intestine and 'hibernate' there over the winter months, whilst they mature. Here, they are not detected by the horse's immune system, so can grow undisturbed until the warmer spring weather arrives. It is important to treat for this stage of the small redworm because mass emergence of the encysted mucosal small redworm in spring can cause parasitic diarrhoea, mild recurring colic, listlessness, weakness and appetite and weight loss. How to administer Equine Guard For the treatment and control of encysted small redworm administer 5ml of the product per 65kg bodyweight daily for five days. This product can easily be administered by mixing with grain or concentrate feed, however the full daily dose must be administered in one feed. Pregnant mares and foals may also be safely treated with fenbendazole at therapeutic doses.
